A trip to Knayanja Village

In the quiet rural corners of Zambia, where dusty roads lead to humble schools and eager young minds dream of a better tomorrow, something as simple as a pair of shoes can make a world of difference. This is the powerful mission behind Tikah’s Shoes for Kids Foundation—an NGO dedicated to transforming the lives of vulnerable school-going children by providing them with one essential item: shoes.

Recently, the foundation took a heartfelt step forward in its mission by donating 50 pairs of school shoes to Kanyanja Basic School, located in Kanyanja Village, Kafue District. For many of the students, this was their very first pair of proper school shoes.

Walking with Confidence and Dignity

In rural areas like Kanyanja, it’s not uncommon for children to walk several kilometers to school barefoot—braving rough terrains, scorching heat, or muddy paths during rainy seasons. The lack of proper footwear not only affects their health and safety but also their confidence and school attendance.

The joy and excitement on the faces of the children at Kanyanja Basic School spoke volumes. With every pair handed out, Tikah’s Shoes for Kids Foundation was doing more than protecting tiny feet—they were restoring dignity, encouraging school attendance, and showing these children that they are seen, valued, and supported.

A Simple Gift with a Big Impact

The founders of the organization, Jodi and Josephine Mkandawire, shared that the idea behind the foundation was born out of the realization that many children in rural Zambia lack basic necessities that are often taken for granted in urban areas. "We believe that no child should have to choose between going to school and protecting their feet," the founder said.

Shoes may seem like a small gesture—but for a child in a remote village, they can represent hope, health, and opportunity.

Looking Ahead
